Spring Meadow

I finished my spring themed embroidered ATC for the Hand Embroidery Network swap I joined a few weeks ago.  It's the first time I've tried to make an ATC out of an embroidered piece done on linen.

I ran into fraying problems at the end even though I had border stitching plus a running stitch around the border to attach the backing.  So, I had to lose some of my border and add some heavy stitching on the edges to save them from fraying.  Overall, I'm happy with how it came out, and I definitely learned a lot.  I want to try another one to test out a self-adhesive stabilizer I found.  I think it will make all the difference for the next ATC I stitch.

Here's the front:

And here's the back, made from my first batch of fabric paper:

I must admit, I'm having a hard time putting it in the envelope--I think I'm a little too enamored of my sweet little blue bird!  I may have to make a companion piece for myself. :)

I hope my swap partner likes it.  Now, time to go get my little bird ready to fly.

that is amazing!
i used to do loads of beading and embroidery - you are inspiring me to get back into it.

Thank you! I love the embroidery part, but my favorite is putting the beads on. It's like meditating--focusing in on just the work at hand, finding the right spot for the next bead, and toward the end finding the right bead to fill a spot that needs something more. It's so fun to do. I just love it!

I hope you do get back to doing some of it--I love to look at other people's work almost as much as I love putting on beads. :)

This is gorgeous! It reminds me of the intricate embroidery on wedding saris.

Jenn, thank you! I just had to go do a quick search for "wedding sari." You know, I'm used to seeing "sari fabric" in the stores, and it's very pretty but not embroidered. I had no idea how gorgeous some of them are or how intricate! And the embroidery! I want to wear something like that--I have no idea *where* I would wear it, but it's so beautiful, I'm sure I'd think of something.
